IMO...Why take the chance? Its easy to install the inners after you break it in. Plus, you have to have it half apart to retorque the heads anyway.
I agree with this...we use our engine stand to break in engines so everything is easy access anyway, so installing the inner springs afterwards is a piece of cake. And we still use the break in oil and additives. With the large amount of wiped out cams you hear about nowadays I believe in overkill.
Peace of mind and not having to clean metal out of an engine with a wiped cam=priceless.

My springs are 145lbs @ seat and 380lbs @ 600 lift.
I would never even think of breaking in a new cam with those springs. Don't take the chance, do everything you can to avoid wiping a lobe/lifter during break-in.
The results of a wiped cam is worse than the work to change the springs after break-in. Complete engine disassembly and cleaning, new bearings, potential cylinder/piston scoring, etc.

I have also removed the inner springs to break my cam in, cam and lifters cost to much these days to risk it.

Are the Schubecks any taller or shorter than a normal lifter?
The lifters shouldn't be any different than stock lifters unless you have them custom made. Do you have more info on those springs? If your going with a cam with 630 lift you might put yourself into a coil bind situation and that will break parts and flatten cams. I know that the sm lifters are expensive but the cost of wiping a cam is triple the amount of the lifters and they are completely reusable on other cams.
