On all my Mopars, I have placed the ECU under the battery tray. I don't buy the harnesses that incorporate the electronic. I had a friend who's brand new harness was jacked up. Took forever to find the problem, never thought it could be a brand new harness....
Anyways, I take the supplied harness in the MP kits and extend them to reach the ballast resistor and (-) coil post. I then extend the distributor connector/harness to as well, reach the coil. Once I have the desired lengths, I wrap the harness with black electrical tape neatly to give that OEM look. I used the supplied spades in the kit and utilized terminal cover on the ballast resistor connection. I place a "t" at the appropriate ballast resistor terminal and reconnect the blue OEM wire and then the distributor harness spade. I have the power I need but the flexibility to remove the complete harness if need be. Plus, you don't have to compromise the original engine harness. It looks neat, factory and can be easily removed..

I really like that idea.
As far as mounting it to the head...the OP was asking for suggestions. I remembered seeing that bracket so I mentioned it. Don't know if there are problems with heat or not.

I would have gone with a different ignition system if your goal was to make it invisable. There are systems that install inside the distributor cap.
Unless something has changed, the Pertronix modules wouldn't work in dual point distributors.

They make a kit that replaces the points inside a dual point distributor.

If you still want to use the MP kit, there is a company that makes a bracket that will mount the ECU to the back of the passengers side cylinder head. You will still be able to see it but it isn't as obvious as one mounted on the firewall.
I would have gone with a Pertronix Ignitior II and hid the Mopar ECU, esp if it's the orange box, in the trash because that's where you'll be throwing them

I did the same on my challenger too. This way no holes are drilled in the body, (only in the battery tray), it is in a place that is nice and cool, and fairly well protected. It is also totally invisible.
Lengthening the wires is not a problem at all, in fact it was stated in the instructions that came with my kit. I had zero problems with this, has been on the car for 10 years.
