I've got a '65 Chrysler 300 'vert with power windows. The car was sitting for over 20 years and the regulators/motors are all gummed up. The regulator/motor assemblies are out of the car. I know there is a proper orientation the regulators need to be in (not certain what it is though) to safely remove the motors but I am not able to engage the motors to get the regulators in position. Any recommendations? I have a feeling if I try and remove the motors as they are not I may lose a finger or something. Any help would be appreciated.

You just need to clamp into a vice to keep the spring from releasing. No big deal don't use to much pressure.

Now be sure you get the motor back on or you lose your vice until u get it back on.

Yes, be very careful they can be dangerous. I had to take them apart on my 69 Coronet one time and wasn't too safe in my technique but didn't hurt myself. I'd say the vice is the best way to do it.

As mentioned you can clamp them in a vise.. But chances are you'll want to clean & lube the regulator while the motor is removed so the better approach is to attach longer leads to the wires from the motor & to run the regulator to the end of travel in the direction that releases spring tension.. Then clamp it & unbolt the motor.. After that you can release the clamp while holding the gear & mounting plate & after unclamping you can release the spring tension with your hands... It won't have much tension left if you release most of it before removing the motor...

There's problem #2. The motors/regulators are so caked the motors cannot move. Also, would the regulator in the full up or down position release the spring tension?

The springs are to assist in counteracting the weight of the windows so window up is releasing tension... Soak the regulators with penetrating oil for a couple days the motor should be able to overcome the resistance unless the motors are bad..

While you've got everything that far apart, might as well go ahead and add relays. Made a nice difference in my car, and 1_WILD_RT was a huge help when I did mine

I had that happen to me too, didn't break my finger, but did get a nasty cut. The scar is still visible after 12 years.
