I just got the shortblock assembled. The heads should be here this week. Zero decked .040 over 440 4.15 stroke with SRs I need to order head gaskets and would like some opinions.

Just ask Dwayne which gasket he would suggest, I would
just use a Felpro... they have always worked well for me
but 90% of my engine stuff is SB

The felpro gaskets I used with Eddy heads had the fire rings real close to the edge of the cylinders he also brought this up when I was talking to him about the using the SRs. And at the time I told him I would probably order some cometecs but I'm not sure now after reading about people having trouble with them leaking water.

Felpro makes a couple of different bore sizes, dependent
on your bore

I blew a set of the Fel pro race 1009 and a set of the stanadrd duty 8517 PT out in my 4.380 bore with SR heads twice(12.9 to 1 comp. ratio) Get the larger bore race and marine gaskets for the 4.440 bore size Or a set of the Edelbrock head gaskets for the 4.440 size bore

if you need a bigger bore felpro,i use a 1039 in my 580" motor.it is 14.1 cr.i think it is 4.590" bore and .051" thick. i have had zero problems with both of theese gaskets.i also use head studs.

I am also using studs. Maybe I'm being to cautious butt what is the ideal recess of the fire rings?

I ordered the edelbrock 8519pti gaskets 4.450 .038 compressed and they came in an edel pakage but they have mr.gasket stamped on them . They measure 4.50 perpindicular and parallel and .047-.051 thick ootb they look goood on the block we'll see what they look like when the heads get here. I was leaning toward MLS gaskets but the machine work on the block didn't look to be smooth enough .
