What is the best one? Where can I get one? I want to do my own, it's something I have been planning on doing for years and it's now time.

727's and 904's

thanks

Dennis

It's not hard to do at all.

This link has steps
727 rebuild

I really like this book because it addresses performance mods.
Chrysler Torqueflite

I also have an old factory service manual that covers a rebuild.

Plenty of Moparts sponsors can help out too..

TCS , A and A , CRT.

off topic, I'd suggest cleaning the outside case spotless before you start so when going back together you wont bump particles of grit into the trans (trust me on that one). checking the input shaft free play w a dial indicator (record it) before you start and rounding up a pair of long banquet type tables so you can dissassemble the guts out in sections & keep the locations in order such as thrust washers etc facing the right way and the clutch packs in order like an exploded instruction diagram would look then w the trans up on the operating table upside down remove the pan pull the front pump & continue on. take each piece/section to the far end of the table & work backwards so everything is in order. EDIT take notes on which way the thrust washers etc face as in ie "the scored side faces to the rear", "the notches go to the front" etc. 6-8 sentences on a note pad during dissassembly will be a Godsend when going back together and only takes a few seconds of work & interrupting your train of thought to grab the pencil. Most of us think we have a photographic memory but I sure dont

Carl Munroe has very detailed book on the subject. This along with the FSM should explain quite a bit.

I'm going to order the book from Amazon. Where do I get a FSM? Is there a certain one I need that is better, or do they all have a trans section?

Thanks for the advise so far.

They all have tranny sections but it'd be much better to get one for your exact year as the wiring diagrams etc would be exact. There is alot of interchangeability but it's only a matter of time when your in an area & there's a year to year change & your FSM is slightly off usually at a critical moment because you dont have the exact year manual for your vehicle year.
