You're going to get 110,000 people telling you not to go with aluminum, but I have had great luck with Bill Miller's. The last set I just took out had been in from 2002-2009, at least 500 passes. I ordered a set of GRP's recently and have yet to run them. There are a lot of guys running BBC's in T/D and S/C claiming 600+ passes out of the GRP's.

R&R makes a very nice more budget friendly aluminum rod. Have them in a couple of customers cars and they are holding up fine so far.

Will it survive with a honda journal and how much more do I need to clearance the bottom of the block? Matt

you will do a lot more grinding for clearance with the aluminum rod. i'm curious as to why you "want" to run them in a street combo. there's not that much difference in the weight that it's going to make a real performance difference for a street cruiser. please explain.

I know about grinding more just want to know how much. RE: PHOTO'S
Don't know where you got street cruiser it will probably see more track.
Yes there is not much more difference in weight but every little bite helps, plus you have a greater chance of the block surviving if something goes terrible wrong. Matt

I don't mean to speak for him.....but I have some experience in these matters.
Not in running aluminum rods.
But in doing things that make no sense.
It just sounds cool.
Back in the day , there was some guys who ran a local service station..one of them had a small block with aluminum rods and a roller cam in his street car.
The impression that made on me as a kid was downright corrupting.
The reliability issues that aluminum rods are alleged to have are myths , but if someone claims to have alloy innards on the street , they are viewed by many as a serious player.
Sometimes they are.
Usually not.
Same for a solid roller cam.
Not many running down the strasse.
The " only kid on the block who has one " thing is powerful.
Not to mention expensive.

O.K.
back on topic.
I would think that there isn't a specific forging for a Honda journal diameter.
Hence more meat due to the smaller hole.
Beefier big end on the rod.
Grinding ?
Probably not much different than what you would have to do with the generic ( GM ) rods that most cranks are cut for.
How much more ?
That is between you , your block and the Deity of your choosing.
Cam clearance shouldn't be an issue and bores and rails would be contingent on stroke.
Can't help with pics , but based on pics I have seen in " How to build Big Inch Small Block MoPars " ........with a long arm in there , there is still not a ton of stock removal to make it fit.
Good luck with your project.

You R correct I was thinking of 4.220. IIRC you did a 4.25 Callie with a aluminum rod and had to take quite the amount out of the bottom.
So I want the aluminum rod deal but I don't need something for a top fuel dragster. So a 6.20 rod, strong enough for sub 700 hp and won't be turned more than 7500.
I think that my 230 CNC Indy heads won't need to go past 7000 rpm with the cid I will be using. Thanks Matt

What is your final cubic inch going to be? What kind of compression do you have in mind? I would think that a Honda journal diameter will hold up just fine BTW. You should come and see me @ the shop. J.Rob

Not trying to here but, steel rods are showing up in many N/A applications, including "THE" N/A application.

And with that much stroke, there will be some compromise in crankshaft strenght with small journals. Altough 7000rpm is modest by today's standards so it probably won't be that big an issue.

There is only 1 guy left running aluminum rods in "THE N/A application" that I know of. Not so much that the rod is steel, but what it allows you to do to the piston & pin.
