Just find you a good used unit, there basically all the same, any A body should work, take the pitman arm & coupler too, as for the steering shaft, unless its a calapsable shaft/column, you'll need a longer coupler to join the two, i cheated, all i did was weld my coupler too the manual coupler, this gave me the distance i needed, i wasn't going to give 130.00 for the aftermarket coupler, had a pro-welder do mine up for 20.00 bucks.

Did you know you can get a new one?

Flaming River is a sponser here and makes a brand new replacement box.

Or you can go to one of their dealers and get one for a little cheaper.

Allen Here's a novel idea, let's not throw a bunch of parts at the car hoping it will fix the problem and instead spend a little time diagnosing it first. Life was a little easier when I was just a wrench.

On the early A bodies the inner steel shaft interchanges so I changed that in my 65 dart to the longer one for manual steering. Dont know if the 67/up A bodies are the same but somebody here will. On a used one move the pitman thru it's travel and see if it's smooth and how much free play the steering col shaft nub has (pitman centered:halfway thru it's travel range) and might take out the fill plug & see if it's not dry in there. I think the 73/up A bodys use a different pitman that on the centerlink end the taper points down (castellated nut on the bottom) whereas 72/earlier (to 67) the ball joint end points up iirc (I might have that backwards)so see what you need. Ehrenberg in MA recommended a combo of wheel bearing grease and gear oil melted together & thats what I used

IIRC in '73 the manual box got the bigger sector shaft (same as the power steering box) so you will need to get a '73-up box so that it will drop right in without changing any of the steering linkage.

The guys at Firm Feel can get you a manual box. There are a couple of different ratios available while you are at it.
