Hey guys anny one hear have anny good tips on racing a old poly?

I did one a few years back for my 1965 Coronet 4 door, bored .030 over with a 4.00 crank 390ci reground the stock cam
TTI headers
two 500 Edy carbs
slightly ported heads

with 3.91 gear and a set of 26" BFG drag radial ran 13.90 @100 with the tranny not shifting till you let off, and the carbs wer a mess, tuned er up now and lookin for 12s
weight 3900 lbs

I hear thay make new cams now? annyone hear the same?

Im also lookin for a Weiand dual 4bbl intake for it, I already have the cast iron one.

Anny tips or tricks would help.

Contact Gary P he has been out front on the poly engine for a long time.400 h.p should be easy with the 390 or the 400 stroker. He even has roller rockers for them.

Camcraft also can grind cams for them.

The Weiand single plane was discontinued in 2002 and they have no plans of re popping them.

The cyl heads actually flow quite well but I only know one person that is putting any serious effort into them. The work has been slow but encouraging. He has the larger valves etc in stock.

Thinking of possibly doing one myself. It will be a bit pricey but it would be nice to have something different.

There's a very active Poly board on Yahoo Groups.

That yahoo group IS indeed quite active. I think some of those guys are working on getting a REpop done on an alum 4 bbl intake.

I assume you have headers if not get them as the exhaust is that engines biggest weak point. A good 2.25 is also a plus why not 2.5 the heads unless they are ported will not take advantage of the increase in flow in many cases

I spy headers in that pic so that part is set for you. I really think with some tuneing and weight loss (3900 is very heavy)you can run mid 11s with little changes.

13.90 is a good time for your Poly; yes, let us know when you reach the 12's and embarrass a brand X competitor at the track.

I am working on Phase II of my Poly Stroker; Poly Tunnel Ram, Poly Roller Cam...other internal mods.

Let me know if I can share any data/tech/information or parts for the Poly - cams, pistons, stainless oversize valves, gasket sets...anything you need.

Take care and keep the Poly fires lit.
