Summit and Jegs both have their own racer discount deal. While regular prices appear similar, I haven't compared the discount deals. But I would guess they would be similar also.
I support Summit because they are heavily involved with IHRA. But Summit usually has everything I need anyway. Recently, I almost placed an order with Jeg's because they had a particular fuel drum pump that Summit didn't. But after shopping around locally, I found one at a Grainger store at a similar price and went ahead and got the rest of the stuff from Summit again.
I hate to say it, but I think some people have gotten spoiled with Summit's extra 10% discount codes (some in addition to the racer Summit Pro Shop deal) and have taken it for granted. Remember, Jeg's apparently never offered any extra discounts besides their racer discounts. I was thrilled that I got to "double-dip" a couple of times with Summit. Of course I was disappointed when the codes didn't work. But I felt I got "lucky" when they did rather than expecting it every time.
It seems that their discount codes are part of a marketing strategy. One person said it might be to get some business from certain parts of the country (shows) or to reach people of a certain demographic (i.e.: hunting magazines).
I got one code a couple of years ago printed on the back of a time slip from Gainesville Raceway! It's a tough, competitive market and they are doing what they feel will help business. Going elsewhere because a code isn't available probably won't save you any money because "elsewhere" probably has similar prices and never does offer additional discounts! Can't get mad at a cereal company because they don't put a coupon for your favorite in the Sunday paper every week!
