I am looking at a 70 GTX RS23U0G car. It does not have the fender tag or build sheet. Besides the VIN on the door, radiator support and trunk lip is there a way to tell if it is a true GTX or a clone? I have not seen the car yet.

Some items to look for:
1)Skid plate on K frame & date on K frame should be close to build date of car
2)Dash vin, door vin, rad support vin, trunk lip vin, block vin & trans vin should all match
3)Dana 60 if it is a 4 speed car
4)Should have complete inner & outer trim set on rear tail panel
5)Should have wood grain rally dash assembly

Good luck!

I think most if not all 70 gtx's had 26 inch radiators. Also the t bars would have been heavy duty .92". The rear springs would also be heavy duty. Not that these could not have been swapped, however if they are missing this might be something to questions as to why. The other thing to check for is the 3/8" fuel line, 383 runners would have been 5/16" (at least they are on 69's that may have changed in 70). You can never be to careful when buying one of these cars.

good luck

RS in VIN# tells you it's a GTX
if the last 8 digits of the VIN# number match the core support and trunk lip, then the body matched the VIN# & it's a GTX.

STD radiator in a 440 and/or 440+6 GTX with an automatic is 22".
You need 4-speed, A/C or an axle package for it to be equipped with the bigger radiator.

A 22" radiator was standard. 26" came on A/C cars and Trac Pac cars, Heavy duty trailer package, Taxi or Police, or you ordered the maximum cooling package
