I guess I'm somewhat skeptical, but admittedly don't have much experience with it. We're talking about the process of filling the side seal sections with RTV, and inserting a water retaining pipe cleaner thingy..... Does this setup work adequately?

Yes it does. But I like the seal holder from Mancini racing that uses 2 seals.just my .02 worth.
