I'm trying to decide on an oil pan for a 1974 360 that I'm installing in my 71 Cuda. Need the pan to fit, work with TTI headers and not drag the ground. Looking at center hump Milodon 30940/8 quart and Mopar P5249059 5 quart(stock). I know the stock one will fit but what about the milodon? Anybody have any experience they could share with me on this application??? Thanks

I use a Milodon pan on my '72 'Cuda and I have TTI headers so my experience should be relevant. The headers do come very close on the passenger side. They should clear, but it will be close [ I dinged two tubes to put my mind at ease ]. The right front of the pan will be very close to the "K"member. I cut a small "V" in the "K" member to be safe. Ground clearance is good in spite of the fact that I set my front end height slightly lower than stock. The bottom of the pan will extend below the "K" member. I use a skid plate on any car with a deeper than stock pan, although in this case you could probably skip it as long as you exercise proper care. If you choose to use the Milodon [ it's right for me ], I would leave the rear pan gasket out and use RTV instead just like most small block people do with intake manifolds. The reason being that the gasket is narrow and the bead on the pan isn't as deep as the factory one or as well placed. The old general rule still holds: The more you deviate from stock, the more mods you have to make to get it to work right. This really is a wonderful hobby isn't it?

If the 360 is totally stock go with a stock pan,if it is modified at all go with the milodon, yes at 9in. it is deep,but unless you're rock crawling it should be fine.Also don't forget the longer pickup
milodon #18345.

P.S. your headers will hang lower than the pan anyway.

I love this hobby and one of the reasons is because of guys like you. Thank you so much for your response. This is great information. Sounds like I can live with those mods. Is your pan the 30940 8 quart?

Thank you for the response. Yes it is built really well and I'm adding 100-150 shot of NO2. The header comment really puts it into perspective. I was wanting it to be a stealth look as I'm painting it all with hemi orange, using stock valve covers, etc. but I think I can live with the HP pan look lurking below.

Yes, I am using the 30940 pan. One more little bit of info. The front baffle in the pan won't take a full depth dipstick. This may not bother you, it did me. So I drilled a 1/2 in. hole for a dipstick. You will need a longer than stock car dipstick. One from a truck or van will work after you trim the end. In order to drill the hole in the right location leave the pan off and with the end of the dipstick sicking out just past the blocks pan rail tape a "Q tip" to the dipstick and soak the cotton end with paint or something similar. Put the pan in position [ two bolts on each side is sufficient ] and push the dipstick down until it contacts the baffle. Pull it back up and remove the pan the paint mark is where the hole has to go.

That is some serious info. So can you use your original dip stick tube? How do you decide what the correct level of oil is so you can cut the end of the dipstick the correct length. Hopefully this will be obvious once I see whats going on. Thank you

Kevko has a 6 quart that does not hang below the k-frame and works with TTI headers. 6 quarts plug the oil filter so 7 total:

Can you or do you even need to run a windage tray with the Kevko pan? Also what about a crank scraper?

Nice, So can I use my milodon windage tray with this pan? It says it has a crank scraper, can you tell me what that is and does? Can I use the stock dip stick tube and dip stick? Thanks for the pics and info. Frank

I've never used the Kevco, but it certainly looks like a nice piece. As for the dipstick, I fill the oil filter just like I would on an oil change and install it. Then I pour four qts. of oil into the engine plus whatever was left over from the oil filter and start the engine and let it run for a minute or two and shut it off and let the car sit for at least an hour on a level surface. Then I pull the dipstick and make a mark at the oil level, a triangular file works well. The I add one more qt. [ no need to restart the engine ] and wait another hour or so and check the level and make another mark. One more qt. and same thing again. You now have marks at 5,6 & 7 qts. From the pictures it appears that the Kevco may already have a hole in the baffle, but you may still have to make a custom dipstick unless you want to try to look under the car for the oil level tube.
