How about a little more information, car weight, motor style and C.I., HP estimate, rear gear ratio and tire diameter or circumference, converter stall leaving the line, type of rear suspension

The car is a 3200# '69 Valiant with a stroker 512. Engine makes 650-675 horse and current stall is 4500. Ladder bar suspension. Rear gear is a 4.11 and the tire size is 32x16x15. I have never spun the tires off the line. I'm just interested in a quicker 60'.

My expereinces as well as other racers that I know and trust find that if the motor has a lot of power, torque and good traction the car will run faster with less low(1.76) gear ratio than higher(1.88) As usual you will probally be the exception If I was you I would try it to find out, on my heavier(3400+) cars that I have raced the lower fisrt gear helped the car 60 ft better and get quicker reaction times. The tires your running are big in circumference which takes starting ratio out of the car, I ran a 2900 lbs. SG car for a short while that had 4;56 gears, 727 standard low gear ratio(2.45) and a set of 14x32x15, it was a real slug off the line. I switch tires to a set of 13x30x15 and tha car pick up the 60 ft. times and was quicker all the way down the track

Quote:
I bet more stall would help your 60'more than the gear swap.
2x the higher stall, maybe shorter tire(less weight also)
