Hey guys, does anyone know which color pie tin would be correct for a '69 Road Runner with the 383 air cleaner? One source said red for '68-69 and that orange was for '70+, but another said they used both colors in '69. Any info you could give would be great. Thanks!

From the 69 Plymouth brochure. All indication point to red.

red for 68 & 69 and orange in 70. My neighbor even had a 69 he bought new that had a red tin. It may be possible there was a change in 69 sometime, but I know they did have red in 69.

this is a quote from the road runner forum.

"I have done some research on this topic in the past, and what I found out is that the color changed mid year in 69. Early built cars had red, and later built cars had orange. Each plant had different amounts of inventory of the red tins that had to be used up before the switch to orange. So you could have either color on your 69 Road Runner. Use the color that makes you happy."

My original '68 & '69 Roadrunners had red pie tins; I believe them to have been original to the cars due to the wear & corrosion spots on their undersides that matched the air cleaner lids. One of the '69s was an A/C car. All were St. Louis, except one'68 from the L.A. plant. IIRC, the latest SPD of my '69s was in April '69, and that may have been the Air Grabber car.

For sure that Air Grabber one would have been ORANGE and for another obvious reason

Yeah, I just threw the A/G car in there to account for it and the dates, it was of course a different animal altogether.

I have NEVER seen an original '69 with a orange pie tin. I have several late cars (both June) with their original red tins.
