Every once in a while, while idling, the engine will drop to about 500 rpm's, seem to almost stall, then pick up again. It never stalls, and this symptom only last for a few seconds. I have tried changing the plugs (it needed it, anyway), and have added fuel system cleaner (Seafoam), but to no avail. This is a hit and miss situation, and it never sets a CEL. I have had it to a dealer, but it doesn't happen then, so they tell me they can't help unless the issue duplicates itself.

This a 4.7L HO, 4X4 Quad Cab, with 35,000 miles.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I took it to a dealer when this happened last winter, and there were no codes stored then. So, I assumed that there would be no codes this time, either.

Where is that located? Is that the same as the throttle position sensor?

I had some goofy idle problems when I had a weak battery.

Good advice from you both. Does anybody know where the IAC valve is located? I would like to clean it and see if that helps.

I know I don't know my way around the 4.7L engine, but the only thing I could locate with 2 screws holding it in was the throttle position sensor, which was behind the throttle body. Can anybody offer a pic or something similar to assist???

Sometimes the plaque that builds up inside the throttle body itself will cause the IAC counts to go up as well. Not only do you wanna clean the bore for the IAC but also the entire throttle body around the blade and all.

Thanks for the tip. I did manage to get the IAC valve out. Only 1 screw holding it in, but the rubber seals were really holding that thing in!!! Took a lot of tugging to get it out. Cleaned it up with throttle body cleaner, and cleaned up the throttle body around the butterfly valve, too. Seems to idle much better, but only time will tell about the dropping rpm issue, as it was only a sporadic thing. So far, so good!
