How rare are the 68 b-body shifter handles? I know that they were a mid year change. I see 69 handles all over but never a 68 for sale.

I seem to find that most think all 68's had the inland shifters. There was a mid year change in 68 from the inland to the hurst that ran through 69. I know of no difference in 68 and 69 Hurst shifters.

You may be thinking of the A-body different handles.
On A-bodies the inland was used in early 68 and then I believe went to the scripted HURST handle seen in the top in this picture. The bottom shifter shown was what they went to in 69.

Were any 1968 cars sold with the 69 style handle? The 68 hurst lettering is hard to find.

All Mopar 4 speed handles (regardless of body style) changed from Inlands to Hurst midyear during 1968 production.

I don't believe that is correct. I have had several original '68s with the outline HURST and have a march '69 with the thin script. I was once selling some of each style at a swap meet, and was told by a man who claimed to work for HURST that when the dye for the outline scrip needed to be worked on they used the thin stamp. I have seen one G.M. shifter with the thin script also.

I have a org 68 RR, SPD 5-21-68, with the shift handle shown on the bottom in your pic, the outlined script.
As stated mid 68 they all went to hurst with the dash reverse light.
Clair, Whats your SPD?

Are we talking console or non-console shifters here.
I assumed the latter, since I am aware console shifters after the elimination of the inland were the same for 68 and 69 A-body, part number 2950055, and the same for 69 B-body, 2950057.
However, in the 1968 parts books, A-body, after listing the console and non-console inland, it states..
4 speed lever... "w/o console Hurst type 2950054".
Parts book 1969, A-body, states,
4 speed lever...
"w/o console up to approx Jan 17, 1969 2950054".
"w/o console after approx Jan 17, 1969 2996313".
Curious if anyone out there with a non-console original 68 Dart, Barracuda 340, 383 four speed could shed some light

So how common are the single line hurst script handles?
