R4 – Performance Red, also known as Barracuda Orange and Charger red, color 71582

OK. I think I'm a little color blind and I wonder if it might be a color that changes shades in different lights. For those of you that have seen this in person, what is your opinion. Red or Orange?

More red than orange to me.

No Question....It's Orange... BTW my 69 Roadrunner is R4...

R4 is red with a tinge of orange. My 69 Charger was just painted that color. I gave them the color code and they only had it in a single stage paint so the supplier had to call PPG to get the color for the basecoat/clearcoat. Let me know if you want the formula.

R4 is really one of those colors that changes depending on the lighting conditions

same color as mine but ill be danged if it dont look orange to me,gotta love the way MA MOPAR thinks.

Like said above, it is both red and orange depending on the light...

I sell paint for a living, so here's the skinny.
Most colors used are blends of different pigments. Very few are truly a single pure color. That being said, you can have reds that have different tones. If there is a lot of yellow pigment in there, it will be more orangey. Once it goes past a certain point though, it would be considered an orange. Then the more or less yellow it has in the orange, it would be an orange with either a red or yellow tone.As for the two cars in the pics, the RR definitely looks more orange to me and the Barracuda more red. But, like I tell my annoying customers, I'm colorblind, so don't ask me.

you can anylize it,catagorize it,even supersize it,call it anything you want,ITS ORANGE!!!!!

I purchased a quart of R4 red before and thought it was waaay too orange so I didnt use it.

Is R4 considered one of the High Impact colors?

R4 seems definitely more orange to me. My RR is R4 and was painted red by a previous owner. Over the winter I had the engine bay painted the correct R4 and there was a definite difference between the two colors.



Within a year or two the exterior of the car will be painted to match.

R4 is RED if applied properly, that's just my opinion. It does change a little with the lighting.
