Assume correctly. Winning the wheelstanding deal now seems to involve destroying the car your in.

Although a local guy here (Dan Smith) won it last year by doing a 400' wheelie in his Demon and setting it down lightly without damaging a thing..... he earned it.

The attitude of many of the competitors now is to do something spectacular like crash, or flip it over. I saw the video of Dan Smiths run, and to me....... THAT was spectacular!

i totally agree. i saw the chevettes flip over at norwalk. first year it was cool. second year it was dumb. if you can carry without wrecking...that is much cooler.

It looks like it's going to end up becoming a freestyle event....so much for the skill factor...

That's why I'm glad Brian Ambrozzini(SP?) won this year in the gremlin even though the black clunker was out there completely destroying his car and was proud of it.

71 chevette? Ultra rare to be treated like that, don't ya think? Ambosini better figure out a way to flip that gremlin. I think byron is looking for different cars to pay out to. Gremlin's getting old.

I thought they started making them around 76 or so. I really don't think they made them in 71.

Went back and looked at the video and the announcers/producers have it listed as a '71 Chevette. They were probably getting confused between it and the vega. lol

I thought the maroon colored Iroc Z28 was best for 2009, he carried it a long way on the bumper and laid it back down nicely.
The Gremlin and Chevette have so little rear overhang that it doesn't take much to stand it up.

Personally, I'm more impressed with saving the car after a gigantic wheelstand; but what do I know, I don't watch "wrestling"...

I almost hate to admit it, but thats my home track. When I first started racing there in 64 ( year the track opened ) the crowds you see at the wheel stand contests were usually like that every week end. It has remained a nice clean family oriented type of track though.
