Saw some posted for sale at the local speed shop. Anyone know anything about them? Said they were aluminum and the port work was by Jerry Arnold (?).
Just curious about how old the castings were, where they came from, and if they would work well for a 500+ inch pump gas racer? I realize the flow #s are important, but if they are fuel heads or nostalgia car parts I mizewell not bother.

If I recall there were aluminum twin plug heads with raised round exh ports.Developed about 1970 for Pro-Stock.Some of the good ones would have been modified by Mullen.(Likely welded up and ported into a D port)2 inch valve gear and long valves. Sometimes confused with the wider spread valve cyl head. Possibly Hemi-Fred will chime in with anything I left out.I would recommend they be totally checked out as most of them lived a very hard life.

I don't think Mopar ever made a "D6" head, D5 heads where very rare. One of my customer had a set of D4, all of the Mopar heads where very porous and had tendecy to leak so I had them treated with a liquid stop leak coating from Goodson, it flat works If you buy some make sure and follow the directions, BTW, unless there really cheap you might want to pass on them, there old technology and who knows what shape thier in
Mr.Cab Racing and winning with Mopars since 1964. (Old F--t, Huh)

D6 were an aluminum alloy head with two spark plugs like the D5, but with a raised exhaust port.
There was a short run of D-6,which were the D-4 intake ports and a raised exhaust port.Casting #3614485 and was sold under p/n P3614487 Once the short run was used up no more were cast.

The heads were droped early due to being porous in the ports and chambers.
Were most of them bad? I have a chance to get an orig pair & was wondering if they'd work well in a 540 stroker street Hemi.

Take a pass on them, they were specificly designed for the 392/396 destroked Hemi Pro/Stock program and many had smaller valves and large cast valve guide (pocket style) inserts that leaked water around them like a sieve.

Thanks Bob, I appreciate the input & glad I haven't contacted the guy yet. I'll probably go with the Stage 5 replacement heads.
