You won't hurt anything spinning your 440 that high, just more noisy and harder on fuel. I don't like to spin motors that high while at a steady cruise, which is why I'm putting together an overdrive trans so I can have a steeper rear end ratio and still cruise at a reasonable rpm.

I'd use a 750DP. no difference in MPG's just performace when they are tuned right. Sounds like a good set-up but keep in mind you'll need more stall to make it work right. I'd guess at least 3000. If you want to keep that stall you might have to drop down to the 500-510 side of town on the cam.

Back in the days before OD they drove all the time in that range as did the trucks.

I used to make a 2 hour cruise each way every other week at 4000 no problems. as long as the oil pressure says above 50 (mine was 75 dead hot) and the temps stay below 210 what can it hurt??

what year is the car? if 68 or newer,You can keep the 391's and go to a taller tire....and get lower rpm's at the same speeds...I run 410's in My bee and have a 29 inch tire....runs like I had 355's on a 26 inch tire....3500 is really no biggie at 70...the motor will run alot higher
