When the spring pressures are lower the lifter leak down isn't a isssue. You need the oil pressure to build up, and stop the hyd lifter clack at every cold start. Most Hyd lifter users' already have adjustable rocker arms for it. Solid cams come in grinds for all purposes from ride-race. Large base cricle solid cams have awesome power under the curve, and modern ramps are just multipliers of the avalible power.

The down side of solid lifter cam build is that every summer you have to pop the valve covers off, and shake the valvetrain. Then maybe pull out a wrench and measuring tool nand do a valve adjustment. It can be fun, or tedious.

A solid lifter engine is a little noisier for a daily driver. Up side better mileage, and longer life. It could be a good idea. What do you think?

Do they still make hyd lifters? Hyd lifter can make noise without high rate springs or aggressive cam lobes. I run from hyd lifters any time that I have a choice and have for 20plus years. Checking valve lash is a very simple process and isn't a reason to go hyd lifters,IMO.

My post was pertinent to others on the page at the time.

Hydraulics, with a performer cam(.420/440") you don't have the valvetrain noise of the 274 XE cam.

Solids can be a little clacky but sounds better than the hydraulic cold.

Solid cams don't seem to have any negatives and wonder why they arent't more poopular?
