I'm finally getting around to putting the set of W2's together that I've had on the shelf for 10 years. The porting/valve job was done a while ago. I'm checking the installed height of the springs and I get a measurement of 2.088 from spring seat to retainer (Compcam 741). It's got Comps 928 springs currently (160lbs closed and 370lbs open). They spec 1.880 installed height for 160lbs on the seat. I'd have to use approx .200 worth of shims to get to 1.880! I cannot find any springs with a taller installed height with the specs I need. Even if I use a spring cup the amount of shims would cause the spring to not fully seat in the cup. What am I missing here? Comp offers offset locks, but they're to increase the installed height. What do I need to do? Any ideas???

Are those long valve W-2s if so they use a 2.00
installed spring

Yes they are. I don't see any 2.00 springs (with the specs I need) in the Comp catalog. I tried Manley as well. Am I missing something?

I'm sure one of the engine builders can assist you
with your needs.

There is a -.050" keeper available, at least there is for 11/32" stems. If they're 10 degree retainers then it should be available for 3/8" too. Though that still doesn't put you where you need to be. You could put shims under the spring cup, but you'll need to make sure the seal still has enough guide to press down onto. What is your cam specs and what OD spring can you run?

I'm running 3/8 valves. Dodgeboy...do you know who makes the -.050 locks? The retainers I currently have are 10deg. The 928 springs are 1.550 o.d. In order to run cups I'd have to go to a smaller dia spring (1.450) so that the cup would locate in the machined recess on the head. Cam specs .575in .587exh

I only found .060" keepers in 7 degree for 3/8" stems. Coulda swore I've seen them in 10 degree too but ???
Comp's 954 springs set up at 1.900 but they have 210 on the seat. Doing the math, if you stuff a .030" shim under that spring it'd put you at about 2.050 IH which would give you about 137 on the seat and 417 open at .580 lift. There might be something a little better, possibly a spring with better materials but this was the closest I could find. I think your best bet may be to just get a shorter valve.

I have long valve W2's on my engine. Dwayne Porter setup my valves and springs. I know they are Isky springs. But I don't know their part#. I would call Porter Racing Heads. Jim

You might look at the 9205 Isky spring... helps to
know what your lift is
