I have a stock front sway bar on my 69 charger. I want to put a rear sway bar on it, does it matter what size rear bar I put on it. There are lots of rear sway bars out there and everyone seems to have different size rear bars, 7/8,3/4,and 1". I was looking at the summit rear sway bar but its 1", is this bar to big to use with the stock front sway bar ??

The length of the arms, the length between the arms and how many/much bends are in it all factor into the overall roll resistance to the rear.

The 3/4" or less bars is what I would go with. Are you planning on upgrading the front bar in the future?

Read here: https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...part=1&vc=1

With my pinky finger, I picked up a Hotchkis hollow rear bar just this Thursday. I'd say it was about 5 lbs tops.

I have E-body front disc brakes on it with the E-body lower control arms and the E-body front sway bar. I don't know how good the stock E-body front bar is. I may up grade to a bigger front bar?? I was going to try installing a rear bar and some eddy shocks and see how much it improves the handling. The car is just a cruiser, and I do live in the country with a lot of curves and just want the car to handle a little better

The E-body front sway bar is the same as a 70 Charger sway bar.

You must have put in an E-body or 70 B-body K-member or had a late 69 K-member??

Do it in steps until you are satisfied

Add a rear bar
Add a front bar
Add new shocks

I didn't change the k-member, the E-body front bar went though the k-member with out any problem. This is the summit bar I was looking at,Is this too big to use with the stock front bar.

That sure looks like a Hellwig rear sway bar with Summit sticker on it. I noticed the picture for the Hellwig brand rear sway bar just happens to be the incorrect picture.

That is adjustable too, so if the it feels too tail heavy you can move the dogbone out a postion.

You will be fine with the 1". I'd probably do front and rears, but if you want to budget it out then try the rear first and get a feel for it.

I believe the picture of the Summit brand sway bar is correct for your application.

It's when you search for the rear dodge in the Hellwig brand sway bar they say, "Image is a representation of this part. Actual part may vary."

I've got this crazy hunch that the picture would be the same as the Summit brand. The Summit brand sway bar looks just like the Hellwig rear bar I posted in the other thread AND that strange very unique green grease tube showed in the Summit brand bar is exactly the same as the one that came with my Hellwig bar.

I went on the hellwig site and downloaded the application catalog, it says the hellwig 6909 rear bar is 7/8". On summits site it says the hellwig 6909 rear bar is 1"?? It may be a misprint on the summit site ?? If so, I wonder if the summit rear bar is a misprint also and is not 1" but 7/8" ??

Good investigating. The picture I have of that install don't look like a 1" rear bar either. Contact David Wheeler at Hellwig and I bet you get to the bottom of this: dwheeler@hellwigproducts.com He's real good at getting back to you.

Thanks again, for the link and the info. I'm might call summit tomorrow and see if I can get more info on their rear sway bar. Or maybe I'll just get the hellwig bar its only $45.00 more than the summit one, and it looks like a nice sway bar. Then if I want to get a bigger front bar I can get the hellwig front bar and then I would have a matched set of sway bars.

I wonder if there is a rear sway bar setup available for a "B" body with the springs moved into the frame rails?

The Hellwig's dogbone link mounts to the inside of the frame rail. You'd have to measure the shock plate to shock plate distance on your car and compare that to the outside edge to outside edge of the swaybar arms. The sway bar clamps onto the rear end and has to fit between thte shock plates.
