I just figured out if the end play isnt correct, it;s not going to be easy to adjust the endplay with this setup. I was told by Mancini that this Diamond Racing Products roller thrust button setup is designed to work with the Cast Indy Cover... I was thinking they make a shim kit for this, but what if I dont have enough to begin with... Anyone run this setup?

I got away from the torrington style and use the nylon button type. I have seen the torrington bearings come apart and let the needle bearings fall into the pan and find their way through the pick-up strainer and wreck the oil pump and associated parts! My $.02. Comp Cams makes the nylon type and probably other suppliers are out there too.

I took a ton out of mine on the mill and it still wasn't close so i ended up just making a aluminum bushing instead of that roller bearing. Another thing is that bearing isn't real friendly with 3/8ths bolts either.

Well.. This setup will NOT work with the Cloyes True Roller timing set..This is the timing set that has the torrington bearing on the back side between the cam gear against the block....
I would need to take almost 3/8" off to make this work.. I was going to just omitt the torrington bearing, but the way the cam gear is made, it has a register ring that locates the torrington bearing..No way that just the ring cold ride against the block. So...I ordered up a Comp Cam Nylon Thrust button. I figured that the torrington bearing will help save the block thrust area.. The nylon will wear, and the timing chain cover shouldnt wear any, if it does its replaceable. I figured the block side needed the bearing over the timing cover..
So just a heads up with anyone looking at this setup. It wont work. Im pretty sure the particular timing set I have with the torrington bearing is a good bit wider than a standard non bearing cam set.. So I will return the roller thrust bearing, and just use some header bolts to attach the cam gear. Those 3/8 header bolts with there little 3/8 reduced socket heads really works nice attaching the cam gear to the cam.
