I am trying to find a chart telling what the strength of the various Mopar u joints might be (7260, 7290, 1330). I currently have a 7260 rear joint and a ball and trunnion front joint in my early bracket car. Not too worried about the B&T but the 7260 gives me something to think about since I am upgrading to bigger tires.

How fast is the car? I have seen plenty of people running low 10's with 7260's with trans brakes.

Use a solid 7260 race u-joint if you're not already using one.

The guy who built my custom driveshaft used them for my old street driven built 340-4spd Duster since my HP was way more than stock.

1970 FE5 Duster 360/904/3.91's SOLD 1973 TB3 SpaceDuster 340/4spd/4.10's SOLD Moparless for now but when the opportunity is right I'll have another one.

I've been using Spicer solid 7260 u-joints in my car since 1999 and never had a u-joint related problem. However, I did find that the OEM rear end yokes can start to spread and let the u-joint pound themselves out. I went to a billet yoke and no issues for years! I've run 11.31 @ 115 with 1.47 60' times with the wheeels up....weighing 3,540+ lbs! I'm very happy with my 7260 joints.

Myron do you have a # handy for the 7260 solid Spicer one? I never thought about the solid/hollow difference until I read this (& the other) thread but I'm a quick study and a believer now.

My Valiant has been 7:40's with standard NAPA 7260 joints with grease zerks in the caps.

To make the U-Joint a little more reliable, if it is greasable, place the grease fitting so it is getting pushed together by the driveshaft turning, not trying to pull the fitting apart. a little off topic, just my...

a solid ujoint is great for a race car that sees 100 miles a year but for a street car that sees thousands of miles needs to be greased periodically. the zerk makes that possible with ease. ive run the hollows on mine and never broke the cross shaft. i have seen lack of greease destroy rollers and caps though.

so i would think that if you were running a 11 or 12 second street car that sees track time, you need the greaseable fittings unless you want to pull the ujoints out every year to grease them

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

Hey guys, if you go to some of the major driveshaft maker sites, there is a lot of good information available on this subject! One of the is www.drivelineshop.com Go to their specsheets section and it tells you the torque ratings of the commonly available u-joints. it says 7260 rated for 400 ft. lbs. continuous torque, 800 ft. lbs. short duration torque, and 1600 ft. lbs. to failure. 7290 #'s are 550, 1000, and 1875.
Dennys driveshaft site also has good relevant info under FAQ's. Lee.

Sorry, I don't have the number handy. My driveline guy put them in years ago and I never got around to getting spares. The spares I do have are Brute Force, but he said Spicer is a better joint.

And another variable to add.... ...I just had a shaft made up this week for a road runner I'm working on...There's a few different syles of solid joints...Some are heat treated and some are'nt...FWIW...I used the spicer solids in past years...This time I went with the brute force heat treated..The shop claimed they were the best with a bigger diameter at the cap than the others and use them in all the serious drag pieces they make..

7260 Spicer solid u-joint # 5-789X. I've been using these on my bracket car for years leaving on a trans brake.

Where is the best place to get either the spicer or the Brute Force u-joints?
