I got them for $40 from a local guy. Seemed like a good deal?

I dropped them off this morning to get bead blasted. I figure I'll shine up the fins after that.

They don't appear to have any markings. I think I have seen them on ebay as 'speedway' make?

Does anybody know who made them, when they might have been made, and if they are rare or common?

Thanks

i can't tell you much on the cover but i have a pair on my girl friends Dart.

They seal well and are a very nice cover imo.

I found the covers when cleaning out my garage my uncle brought them 20+years ago for his 74 charger he doesn remember from who.

I haven't seen them on any other car at the show or at any local swap meets i guess they were common at some point.

Look similar to brand new CP products set I got last year. I also got a used set of Cal Custom, and while similar, they don't look to be the same.

Yeah, they do look just like the weiand V/Cs!

Weird that mine have a blank boss instead of a logo. I wonder if weiand was just badge engineering their covers or if they're offshore copies?

I gotta go to home depot tomorrow and get a buffing wheel and rouge to shine up the edges of the fins.

That blank boss is just crying out for attention though... maybe some 'lil demon stickers like on '71 fenders? Or cid callouts...

I was the one that posted about the CP products some time ago, and we all determined that they were probably the same as Weiand. I have Cal Customs also, and these are probably not Cal Customs.

Looks like the Ansens I got about a year ago. Even the box looks the same.

$40 is a good deal though, I found one (only one not a set) locally and the guy wanted $50. I found a set of Wieands that someone had opened the knockouts with a 1/4 drill (yeah it was ugly) that guy wanted $100. I got mine brand new for $80.

Do yours have a texture in the areas between the fins?
If so I bought the same type of covers last summer. $50 bucks Canadian i think!

Gonna paint them up this winter.

I like the look of them, but your right the blank center section calls out for attention!!!

I have not given much thought on what to do with it yet!

Update:

Man these things needed a ton of work to work on my motor!

I wanted a pcv so I found a early '70s ford style canister/baffle that has a port for a pcv in the top of it. The reason for the ford parts is the bayonet style opening wouldn't fit a stock chrysler grommet.

Then the pcv was sucking oil so I had to baffle the hole- drilled and tapped 8/32" and bent up a little sheet.

Then every time I went for a drive I would get about a mile away or less and smoke would start pouring off the headers and out of the hood scoop and sides! I couldn't figure out why, and I was actually starting to eye up the expensive MP covers when I found the problem.
My air-gap was interfering with the covers, hitting metal to metal on the edges of the intake runners. I don't think the eddy heads helped the situation either. I had to get out the grinder and clearance them.

Now I'm back on the road! Way too much work for some valve covers that were supposed to be cheap, but I'm happy with how all the raw aluminum looks on the top end.

ALL aluminum valve covers need to be clearanced where they butt up to the intake manifold.

There should be a knockout hole on the opposite end of the valve cover from the screw-on cap (look on the underside of the cover). A stock Mopar PVC can be used there along with a standard Mopar screw-on cap on that valve cover, and a standard screw-on oil breather cap on the opposite valve cover.

I never thought either of these issues amounted to a "ton" of work.

Hey man gimme a break I came late to the party. I started out wrenching on harleys and just got hooked on cars a couple years ago with a /6 dodge swinger. I don't know anybody that wrenches on mopars, didn't grow up wrenching, and I have lots to learn in general- that's why I come here to read and ask questions.

This is the first v8 motor I ever built. It had M/T covers on it before that fit fine with no grinding.

The actual amount of work is no big deal- I just didn't understand why I kept having leaks from the breathers and gasket area, especially since these came off a running motor. It was also confusing because the leak didn't show up until I drove it- I could run her all day in the driveway and there was no leak until I went for a drive. Also the gasket leak was only on the passenger side, the drivers side just barely sealed.

It was learning the hard way that made this take two weeks of fiddling instead of an hour of fitting.

There are knock-outs but stock oil caps didn't fit the bayonet holes (came w/ 2 breathers that did fit, but the pass. side poured oil out when running). I was afraid to make more holes when I still couldn't plug these. I was considering tig welding.

Not all should be clearance. All should be checked if they need to be clearance I have installed many different types some need it some don't. It is what make this hobby fun and sometimes a headache

To the OP this is just one of this things you laern as you go anytime you deal with any aftermarket parts you might have to to get it to work. Glad you solved the problem
