Soap is for tubeless, to help seal. Baby powder is for tubes, to help the tube position correctly and not get pinched during inflation.

ive always used soap for a lube to mount the tyres but how is it applied as a sealant?do you just paint it on full strenth or as a dilluted mixture?do you cover the entire inside?

Are you trying to keep the tires from leaking? That's what the soap is for. My tire guy used to coat the inside (lightly) with Dawn dish soap. He says the new tires have a better carcass and they don't need the soap any more. I went through 3 sets of Goodyears last year with no coating of any kind inside and had virtually no leaks.

When I put my car in the shop for it's winter freshen up the first week of November I put the slicks at 11 pounds and when I checked them a couple days before Christmas they were still at 10.

I wiped down the inside of mine with green slime from the local auto parts store. haven't leaked a bit yet.

as mentioned if you are going tubeless apply a coat of soap to inside of tire before mounting.

The soap has no sealing qualitys. It's used on the tire bead area to make sure the bead fully seats on the rim ( snaps up against the rim edge all the way around when aired up ). When mounting slicks, I would use it spairingly - just a small amount ( cap full ) in a bucket of water to keep tire / wheel slipage possibilities to a minumum. Most tubes ( if you are using them ) come powdered, but some additional dusting wouldn't hurt. Most tire shops use a product called "Ru-glide" as a mounting lubricant, but don't know the properties of the stuff or how well it would work in slick mounting applications. It is slick as snot!
