I was looking at the spec's for the 360magnum rods and they are listed as being 6.117" long v/s 6.123" for the pre mag rods. Is this correct? also has anyone used the magnum rods in a pre mag build? is the big end the same size as the pre mag as far as witth(wide)
I can get a set of rods and pistons resized and hung with oversize pistons for 140$ this is a good deal if they will work in my 79 block and crank. how much comp will i loose with .006" further in the hole?
It will cost me an extra 100$ if I have to buy the pistons separate and have them hung on my rods not to mention my rods have not been resized. This is a truck motor low rpm towing.

Magnum rods are 6.123" long the small end of the magnum rod has a smaller width and the magnum rod is lighter than the LA rod.

Is there enough weight difference to cause a ballance consern The .040 over pistons may make up the differance? Or if I was to use the mag rods should I use the mag damper and flywheel weights?

magnum rods weigh about 14 grams less than LA rods on the small end. If it were me I would rebalance

The same. Yes weigh what you have. 1/10th of a gram digital scale was one of the best specialty tools I've ever talked myself into which also lets me lighten/equalize items . And the rod balancing fixture and the stant radiator pressure checking hand pump and...

IIRC the LA rod is thicker at the small end and needs to be ground down to fit a mag piston/pin

Correct & narrowed for some KB piston apps also.

I think I'll just pass on the prehung pistons and stick with the rods I have and get new pistons hung on them. This is a low rpm truck motor so factory balance should be fine.
