the best place is,,,,one that will sell you exactly what you ordered at a fair cost, or design's exactly what you need at a fair cost,,is there such a place?? one person says ABC converter company is the best,,next person says they suck, same for XYZ converter company and DEF converter company and so on and so on, you will never get everybody to agree on one, I personally would just pick a name brand, give them as much accurate info of your combo as you can and give it a shot, they will eather hit or not, I have given a local shop a chance at building my new one so we will see how that work's out,,,for the price it was hard to beat. course I am running a 15 year old TCI that everyone on here say's isn't worth scrap price,,,15years, 1 freshen,no issues, and still good, I guess they don't make scrap like they used to.

You guys will probably laugh but I have a Trans-King 9 inch in my Coronet which is 3800 race weight. It was 600.00. The 9 inch works very good on the street with little to no "flare".Runs consistent 1.42 60 ft. This is my second one.The first I bought in 94 and it had over 700 t-brake passes on it and was sold with my road runner.

I don't care what anybody says, those XYZ converters do suck!
I'm not too sure about the TCI either.

He's in a bad situation financially having to go across the pond, so reworking it 2 or 3 times probably not an option. good luck.

Converters are worse than cams. When the witch doctor is done with your cam spec have him meet up with your fortune teller and get a converter recommendation. Then send it by the Vatican to have it blessed.

can't help with a recommendation, Coan sucked for me and Hughes has been good (Glide)

I've never tried one but the Neil Chance might be the way to go. You can make stall changes to the converter yourself instead of having to send it back.
It does cost almost double a standard converter but you can tailor it to your needs.
I've tried 4 different converters in my cuda and I am still not happy with the results.
If you have an application that is out of the ordinary getting a converter that works properly is more luck than science.

Not sure if A-1 (Marv Ripes) is still in business... they used to make a pretty good converter.

Just went through that experience. what I did was the same thing that you are doing. Went on the internet, asked, read up etc. then went to those "recommended" companies websites, and filled out THEIR specs form. In the comments box, I said that I was going to be purchasing a new convertor, and wanted to know what their recommendation was, and how much. I figured that i would get a good idea of what the experts suggested would work for me, and a ball park price, all so that I could make a reasonable intelligent decision. Well, I was wrong! The ONLY one that was interested in my business was HUGHES. They got right back to me with an e-mail and a phone call, and at least they expressed an interest in me, and my car. NONE of the others showed any interest, One sent me a form letter, stating that they would get back to me, that would be Neil chance, and the others, including Ultimate, Coan etc. did not even bother with a reply. I did talk to A-1,on the phone, he wanted the order, but was not interested in my cars specs, until I brought that subject up. Needless to say that raised a big ol red flag. So, I just spent $1400.00 with Hughes, at least they made me feel like my business was important to them. Naturally i would recommend that you at least talk to them, and give them a shot at your business. they earned mine.

I,ve only owned tci(junk),coan(worked ok at least it seemed like it)until i bought a turbo action(picked up a tenth or more in the eighth with the same sixty foot times + almost two mph). Almost forgot one it was a turbo action also, probably ten years old when installed and it lasted another ten before laying the fins over.

I run an Ultimate now, works great. i also ran a TCT(dynamic racing trans in ct) before that, worked real good. sold it, made member 493dart's car 3 tenths faster. i also had a PTC that worked well, ran exactly the same as the TCT
