I replaced all my front end suspension bushings on my '68 RR. The engine is out at the machine shop so it's another.... "well, as long as I'm this far I may as well....etc, etc"

I'm going to remove my leaking power steering gear box. With everything out of the engine compartment looks to be a pretty straight forward job. The question I have is,

Do I have to loosen my steering column somewhere or can I R/R my gearbox without touching the column?

Thanks

Frank

i think you can remove it without touching the column but putting it back in seems impossible if youre doing it by yourself.

the box is HEAVY

It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.

Frank,
I personally just remove the rollpin from thr coupler, unbolt the column from the fire wall remove the dash to column filler loosen the three column to pedlel ass. nuts and slide the column back a bit.
If you plan on resealing it and have no issues with play in the box the Parts Master output seal kit is # 8517 but I lost the input seal #. Each runs about $18 just checked Advance Auto, we deal with then alot now that they offer lots of name brand stuff at better prices, and they offer a Power Craft rebuild kit with seals and bearings for $63 part # 8539 and a complete seal kit in Power Craft for $48 part # 7895.

John,

Thanks for the info. I am actually going to get a Firm Feel box to replace this one. I also have the rebuild kit for the coupler.
This thing originally steered like a power boat, you had to anticipate your turns. LOL. Hopefully with all new suspension and box it will be a lot tighter.

Good info on the column.

Thanks again, you've been a big help during this project. Have a healthy and Happy New Year.

That goes for all you guys on da board.
