I haven't seen or heard of a eight volt car battery in years I use to use them in the early 6 volt V8 cars like the pre 1953 Olsmobiles, Cadlilacs and so on, any 6 volt hard starting V8 was a potential benifactor of the extra two volts

We run 8 volts in series in our mud truck with no charging system, they are working good, I got them thru Interstate but dont know what brand , they hold a higher voltage a lot longer than 2 12s in parallel and are good ballast

Two 8 volt golf cart batteries would for sure give you some run time for your accessories. But your looking at 140ish lbs?

EDIT, 64lbs a piece from Interstate.

We have used 2-8volt batteries in series for over 10 years in our SS cars, they are light (about 70 lbs for the pair vs 84 for a pair of Turbostarts), cheap (about $120 for the pair), change them out after about 5 years, readily available at auto parts stores and like places.I don't remember the CCA's right now, something around 650-700 each, they are considered a commercial series battery and are generally designed for lots of charge/discharge cycles.
