I just painting the trunk and engine compartment with enamel and was wondering what the sequence of wet sanding should be to get a good finish with no sanding scratches, I don't think I will be able to use a buffer in these areas. Does it matter how long I wait before wet sanding? Thanks, Todd

Depending on how it lays down, but most enamels lay down slick, so if there is a little trash, use nibbler ,sand with 1500 and proceed with buffing, if it's not that slick, start with 1200 followed by 1500,most enamels will buff easily, so there is no need for paper finer than 1500,I'd wait a good week before buffing, especially in winter

watch the high spots in the engine compartment if your not carefull you will rub through very easy.

I can't imagine anyone would sell you an enamel these days without hardener but if you didn't have any in it, wait a month before cutting. Also if it's a metallic color, cut as little as possible as it's really easy to get into the flake on a single stage paint, especially acrylic enamel.
