I just had an odd thing happen where the fuel pressure dropped to 20. Don't know if it is the pump or regulator, but thought I might get recommendations on what to pick up next time, or as spares.

I need 50 psi at the injectors, it is a stock 5.9 magnum, so no high hp stuff needed.

I am currently running an aeromotive regulator, return style and a MSD fuel pump.

I believe the Aeromotive regulator is one of the best. That's what I'm running with an Aeromotive A1000 pump. I had symptoms similar to yours and it was the Aeromotive pump going out - killed by cavitation, not the pump's fault. Even with a 1/2" pickup it was cavitating in hot weather. I replaced the pump which is a short term fix. I need to sump the tank or get a tank with internal pump.

In answer to your other question, I believe the smaller Aeromotive pump, advertised as a "700 HP" pump is a good one although I haven't run it. There are also compact cost effective Bosch style external pumps that may suit your app - see Summit. The goal with an external pump is to get it big enough to cover your fuel needs but no bigger so you aren't sucking any more than necessary on the pickup.

Appreciate if you would post your results with whatever route you choose so we can all learn.

not sure if it was heat. 70 degrees out and had a full tank.

It did pick up again after waiting about 15 min.

My concern is they down graded the pump when I looked it up again for a spare.
It now shows 45 psi as the max output. when it used to be 80.
Since I set it to 50 the whole time, maybe it coudn't take it?
not sure since it is a return system.

I will try to keep people updated when I find the problem.
