Ok guys, this is my christmas presents. Spring relocation kit Slider boxs Back brace for rear end In previous post I added the question, If I use the leaf spring clamps on the front segment and one on the rear segment somewhat loose would a slider box help out as well. I want to go to a mono leaf rear but the funds arnt there as of right now. what are the opinions on the items. Again this is a super stock spring application. I guess my thought is if I use the clamps on the leafs that more less makes a mono leaf, right? wrong? I guess I am in need of some smart guys opinions. my friends that run the complete caltrac run the slider boxs and with good results. any suggestions are very welcomed Thanks guys
Thank you Kiddart

Try the springs as they are now.If you need to add the clamps, try them and go from there.I have used S/S springs and neither of my cars have the springs clamped. The clamps are used as a suspension tuning device. You may not need them.Correct shocks are a key item too.

Think of it as a ladder bar... the front you want stiff/rigid, the front segments do 2 things, they hold the rear in location (fore/aft) and give lift to the body(pushing down on the diff)... the rear segments are the spring portion of it(thats the reason for the shackles, for movement of the spring)... as the diff rotates the front lifts BUT the rear is pulling down trying to fight the front UNLESS it can seperate... the big thing is shocks... you need to control the rise of the body at a controlled lift rate. On the slider boxes... if you have decent angle in the shackles they will work fine

I clamp the front segment, real tight. It all works pretty good.
Did any of you guys ever have problems with the rear shocks seeming to bend at the bottom, where it is even with the axle housing? Mine have been dimpling there for years, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. Does anyone know if there is a cure for that?
I've been using this setup for thirty years....I'm satisfied, but I've wondered if there is a cure for the bent shock housings.

Mr P Body if I understand the more ridgid I get the front the better. I will add the clamps when I move in the leaf springs, now for the pinion angle do I keep it at -3 to -5 or go to a more -1 like for a monoleaf. Right now I have a positive angle and understand its wrong and that could be a Hudge part of the problem. This is what I will plan to do with your suggestions. 1 add clamps(Bolt on Bolt off) 2 move leafs into frame rails 3 redo pinion angle to -1 to -5 degrees 4 get a set of Rancho adjustable shocks from calvert 5 possibly return the slider boxs unless you feel they will help with seperation at launch. I know all cars are different but for the most part a ss spring is a ss spring car. Any thoughts?? and Mr P Body I enjoy watching you run at Ubly and Milan. Thanks and any other comments from any others are welcome.

durring this process, once the clamps are on should I shag the pinion snubber or keep it. Right now at rest it is 1 inch from the floor. I have the adjustable kind, I see some many guys eliminating that from the rear. I aways thought it was almost a requirement with ss springs?? this is why I am not the expert, but oh am I learning
Yeah you can save the snubber in your collector pile, if the springs do their work properly the body will lift before the pinion ever gets near the floor pan

How fast are you looking for??2 cars that my buddies run. 70 dart with small block, spring relocat kit,8 3/4 back brace,s.s. springs,(unclamped in the rear). with a drag radial 275-60 r 15 tires.1.45-1.50 60 ft,Foot brake- leave @ 2000/2200 rpm runs 10'70's.stock front suspension with offset bushings and adj shocks.Only glass is the hood.so the car with driver is about 3300 lbs. other is 74 duster, small block.with mono leaf and caltrac's,and slicks, relocate kit and back braced.car weighs about 3150.stock front suspension, adj shocks. 60 foot is in the same range 1.45-1.50. The car is unconsistant But has a best of 10.30's.The car is not dialed in yet,so full potetial has not been reached. The rear suspension was installed per caltracs instructions.Have not played with anything yet, other area's have been problems. But the car did not pick up any 60 ft when he switched from the s.s set up from the previous year.Just from what I have experience with.If you're running faster or off a brake,I'm sure results will be different. With s.s springs you get body lift,so a snubber is not needed/usefull.
