O.k. Iam going 4 speed against my stock eliminator buddys wishes. Its mainly gonna be a street car so it makes sense. Question two. He runs a jerico with an adjustble pressure plate so he can control how hard the clutch hits. He highly recomended i use one. Where do i get one, what brand should i use,and how much do they cost? He said i can eather buy an adj. or change the springs and shim a stock one. That sounds like a pain in the but. I have experiance with adj. plates on heavy equipment/dump trucks/cranes/etc. and he showed me his. Is this overkill for a street/strip car? I will spend the money i just wanna make sure its worth it! Thanks again guys. You have been very helpful.

I am runnng a Ram Long style adjustable with a Rag disk. Have it set at 2680 right now and drive it on the street. If I was to replace it I would get a Metalic disk this time to be able to set the base pressure lower. Car is 3880# and goes 11.8's

Johnny,
Before you buy any clutch setup, give Tim Hyatt a call 440-254-1311. He is a great guy and will explain exactly why you need what you need. Very reasonable prices as well.
He probably does 40% of the clutches for UMTR racers and has been doing this for 30+ years.
www.umtrnorth.com chat forums are a great source of info as well. Go to the "clutch tech" and "tranny tech" sections of the forum

Thanks guys! I had no idea there was a tranny tech on moparts! My stocker buddy wants me to get a mcleod long style adj. pressure plate. 11in. prefered but a 10.5 will work. He also said they are super expensive!!!! Anyone know of an alternative adj. that may be a little cheeper?

The way I do it is find a unit that can be rebuilt in a custom form by someone like Tim Hyatt. You can search places like the Bullet,Racing Junk,E-bay etc. for a core and save yourself almost half the cost of the entire job.Tim can also convert your existing Long style plate to an adjustable unit.
It may still cost you close to a grand even if you have a core.

The least expensive "do-it-yourself" route would be RAM clutches. $700-$1,000 for disk and PP.

Advanced Clutches (Rob Youngblood) custom cuilds some of the nicest adjustable clutches on the market. He services a lot of the drag racing class-racers.208-880-6214....$2,300 and up for disc, PP, and flywheel. Rob is known for his customer service.

Boninfanteracing.com does alot of clutches for the alcohol and pro classes. They can build you a clutch. They have a new-to-market 10" street/strip clutch. Nick is a nice guy to deal with.

If you do go the Ram way get a Adjustable that you can add weight to in the arms. I wish I did.
There is better choices but they get $$$$ .
I make about 590 hp at the flywheel and do a fair amount of street driving so I am pretty happy with the ram. All told with the flywheel disc and plate I still spent around $800. Good luck

+1

I just installed one of his custom sets for my new race project (tubechass 70 Challenger - 750hp for now - GForce box) and it looks really nice!! Weighs in at around 20lbs for the flywheel, pplate & disc... Dual 7" discs by the way.

Even called him recently before his breakfast... thought there was less time diff between us...

Tim is the man! although i never ended up buying a clutch from him (i have a t5 and ended up with a cheap ford racing clutch instead) Ive talked to him on a few occasions and he puts everyting into laymans terms, explains why you need it and what it'll do for you, and his prices are excellent! When i put a real tranny in my car, you can bet he's doing my clutch
