Well i sold my cuda and iam in the process of buying and building another dart.I have a deposit on a 69 that has a smallblock,4 speed,dana60. Its a great deal and iam going to get it at the end of the month. Here is my delema. The car should go low 11s when its all said and done. I got a decent 440 built about 490hp. The car will probably be down the track about 20 times a season. It will be all steel so iam guessing 3500 lbs. The rear is built with good axles and should be able to handle it. My question is, will an 18 spline hemi box hold up behind it? If so for how long? Alot of my buddies said i will be repacing the trans twice a month! I really wanna run a 4 speed but i dont wanna constantly replace the trans. Any coments or suggestions? Thanks guys! Merry xmas!

I have seen an article on the web about putting a B/E trans in an A body. It's not that difficult, but you do have to rework the crossmember for shifter clearance. Any chance you can get the A body trans and put the tailshaft and housing on the B body trans? ![](/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shruggy.gif) If it's not going to be an every weekend car I would think a stick would last a while.

Well, our team shirts say "Real Racecars have 3 Pedals" on the back so you know our vote. ![](http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh84/StX_RdRunr/Mindrvrsseat2.jpg) 18 spline is stronger than the 23 spline. Jamie Passon and Brewers Performance are both very knowledgeable about these transmissions. So far, cross fingers, the 23 spline in our 70 RR is holding up. The 383 that was in it put out a little less than your 440 but definitely a heavier car. We have made plenty of trips to the track and run slicks when we are there. When I drained the tranny oil as part of pulling the 383 after dropping a valve in the engine the oil showed no signs of metal flakes or anything. A body transmissions have a shorter tailshaft and housing than than B or E body transmissions. B and E body trannies have the same length, and any 70 and up 4 speed will fit either one as they are made with two shifter mount locations, forward for B body, aft for E body. The car is already set up for the 4 speed, Run it with what it has, have fun with it, then drop in the 440 next winter if you still want to go that route. You will definitely have more fun with the 4 speed, especially as it sounds like it will be more of a street car.
