I am starting to assemble my 440 this week. Anyone have a program that can figure the HP/TQ?

Here are the specs:

1966 .030 440 machined for 0 deck height.
Factory crank & rods
KB 237 flat top hyper pistons
Lunati Voodoo 60304 hydraulic cam 234/242 .513/.533 110LSA
Stealth heads, gasket matched
Edelbrock RPM intake
Holley 750 carb (all I have right now)
FBO igniton and worked distributor
Headman Headers
MP windage tray

I won't dyno it, but curious what you all think.

This going into a 65 Coronet 833 4-speed w 3.55 gears. Any guess on quarter miles numbers?

Thanks,

Looks like basically a copy of the car craft 500+ horse 440 build. Slightly different cam that's about it. Source heads have been flow tested to do withing a few cfm of eddy rpm heads. Should break into the 11's if you get traction and can drive that stick well.

Good articles Daytona, thanks. I was hoping for 475-500hp. Should be close.

Very close to my 63's .030 over 440 (446). I use stock bottom end with .030 over KB quench dome pistons so I have quench with the iron 906 heads I use and 10.0 comp. You have better heads but I run a bit more cam with the MP .557 cam I use that is about .250 at .050. I have the Holley SD intake and a 850 DP with the Hedman 1-3/4 headers. When I go by my best et and mph of 11.49 @ 116 it comes out to about 500 HP at the crank in my 3700 lb 63. I would guess your combo will be close to mine so I would say 475 to 500 is very realalistic. Good luck with it. Ron

Differences in your build to mine:

yours is .030 over 440, mine is a .010 under 440 (383 block .060 over, 440 stroke)

both are zero deck

both are flat tops (mine are forged, yours are hypers)

my cam is a comp XE-275-HL, at .525/.525 lift, 275 duration advertized, around 235 @ .050 lift (so, if you provided @.050 duration numbers, dang near identical cams!)

OOTB Eddy heads, closed chamber variants vs your stealths

same intake

same carb (mine is an HP with no choke horns on it...is yours the same? or does it have a choke?)

So, it sounds as if our engines are dang near identical.

my did a best of run on the engine dyno at 505hp, 535 tq. but in a more "real world" test it was around 490hp, 530 tq, at the crank.

toss on water pump, alternator, full exhaust, hot engine bay (vs cool dyno room) transmission...I'm probably putting 380-400 to the ground. my 4200 lb Dakota did 13.9 in the 1/4 @ 103mph, spinning through just about all of first gear. mine is also a manual gear box (TKO-600), 4.56 gears in the axle, 28" tall tires.

13.9 was the best of 2 runs that day, first time at the track with the truck, I'm confident that I can get low 13s out of it, if not into the 12s with some practice and better traction.

put this combo into a car that's about 600 lbs less? ought to run pretty good!

as far as street ability, I did have power brakes on my dakota, and there was more than enough vacuum to keep it happy, I have since switched to manual brakes though, just for engine bay space

What do i WIN !! Port the heads a bunch, cam in the 245 to 250 @.050 range, and 850 or 950 hp carb and you should be at 500 HP

I use the lunati 305 which is the next step up from your cam and it's always good for 500-520 hp.That's the cam I put in daily drivers for guys who want ZERO maintenance.
That 304 cam was always 30 to 40 hp down from the 305 depending on what parts were matched with it..
It's a nice street cam...smooth idle ..good power from 2000 RPM right up to it's red line...nice and flat.

Crazy, I took my Stealths to the machine shop to have better locks put on and check them over.

They checked out fine. The machinist was very impressed with them. He said these were by far the nicest set of heads in this price range he has seen. He had a set of Chevy heads he was working on and one them had terrible core shift and he had a lot of time in them.

I cannot give any real world experience yet.

Thanks all,

i used a desk top dyno for my horsepower #'s for my motor,i almost did the exact same build except i used a set of ported 452's and used a torker II intake and came up with 475 hp,but i did have a set of 1 3/4 tube headers and the heads had stock valves.according too the program if i had used a bigger set of headers and had the larger valves installed it would have made 520,also i used an 850cfm carburator. That cam sounds awesome,by the way.

Over a decade ago a magazine built a 440 to stock 375hp specs. They achieved 365hp. Next they added a 509 cam, M1 single plane intake, Holley carb and headers. With this they got 425hp. I bet you are another 40-50 hp above that as their engine had untouched iron heads. (Valvejob only)
