I am running the 6AL-2 programable and had an idea about using the map senson wire to set up a electronic vacume advance. the idea of the map signal in the MSD manual is to reference timing to boost but could you not reference timing to vacume. Its all reading pressure and if the sensor was calibrated corectly i am thinking it would work. The only reason i thought about this was i was in the garage and dreaming of a road trip with the new engine and was looking at the distributer. Interested in peoples thoughts. let me know.

Why not just use the map sensor as it's intended? You could set it up to basically be pulling timing at all but the lightest loads when it's just cruising, then it would be running full advance.. U may need a fair amount of mechanical advance but it would be easy..


11.48 @ 120 with a 1.80 60' 318, stock 1.88 heads, stock 904, Pump Gas, 13 lbs of boost.

9.94 @ 134, 318 on pump gas, 14 lbs w/ Eddies, transbrake 727, 3600 lbs, 3.54 gear and 28's.

When you use the unit to control your whole advance curve you lock it out at your max timing and the unit retards to match your set curve i believe. I have only run it on my old engine and the new engine using initial and mechanical advance not the computer curve. My thought was that the curve would be locked out permanently followng the set advance curve you choose regardless of load so using the map signal could work like vacume advance and the timing curve would be variable.
