OK.... I can't believe it, but I think I have it.

Just to test, I disconnected the fluid line to see if the caliper would move freely and it did not.... this removed the MC as a culprit...

I then assembled the caliper without the pads and again, the caliper did not move freely, this removed the piston as a culprit...

I then pondered........ and then pondered some more..... I then tried to slip the pins through the rubbers and could BARELY get them to go through while pushing as hard as I could! AH HA!

I removed the rubber from the caliper and the pin moved freely through the hole, put the rubber back in the caliper and it would not budge!!! I always thought that old rubber shrunk, but.....

My assumption is that for the caliper to retract correctly, it requires that the pins freely, VERY FREELY, move through the large and small rubbers.

Does anyone sell those as individual parts? Am I the first on the planet?

I am still a bit skeptical of this diagnosis, but no matter what else may or may not be happening here, this has to be a concern.
