I remember that race with Ricky Smith. Ricky was under weight and did pay the price. I Stopped following Pro Stock after the Break In and Nitros thing. I believe even Tricky Ricky took a shot at running Mopars a little later. Also Tricky Ricky was the King of the Big Motor that was running in IHRA Pro Stock.
As for Darrell Alderman man that guy could drive and I mean he could drive a lot of things on the drag strip. That guy could run a Pro Stock Bike just like the best back then.
The Nitros thing, the way the fire came out of the scoop is exactly like a nitros back fire. Was he running it,I dont care, did an intake valve hang open, who knows. Was he ever suspended for the use, NO. Does everyone really follow the rule book, well kind of they follow their interpretation of the rule book.
As for the most WINS in a season,as a percentage of races Run and Won,it would have to be Bob Gliddon.
One other thing,I still wear my Darrel and Scott, Dodge Pro Stock Ball Cap now and then, just so all the Chevy-Olds guys dont forget those years 1991-1995 years in NHRA Pro Stock.

He's not worth talking about anymore, period!!! He didn't do anything in a car that most people couldn't do given the chance. He just happened to be the hired driver at the time the Wayne Co. boys figured out the power additives. Where's that dead horse?
Bill, why do you got to be such a hater.
And most people couldn't do what he did in the car, actually a very few pro drivers could do what he did in the car.

For those of you who don't want to read a multiple page thread, let me see if I can summarize this: 1] Darrell Alderman used to drive for Wayne County 2] As a driver in that car, he won a lot of races 3] People that had personal interaction with Darrell liked him, and he came across as a genuine nice guy. 4] Darrell & Wayne County [like all teams that are very successful] got accused of cheating 5] Darrell was convicted in an association with drugs 6] Some people can't get beyond the drug situation in their personal opinion of the man 7] Some people think they were cheating 8] Some people think they weren't 9] As for #'s 7 and 8, nobody here can prove either one. 10] Regardless of what Warren Johnson said, or what Bill Glidden did, nobody has EVER proven #7.

well, What intresting reading. I was lucky enough to work on Scott Geoffrion's pro stock Daytona from the 94 season. The car was bought from Mike Sullivan by Matt Sawyer of Adelaide, Australia. I went to work for Matt for close to 2 years. that was the most winning round by round pro car.it came down to the final race between the dodge boys as to who would win the championship that year. I have had that car right down to its underpants and have to say that there was NO way that there was ANY indication that the car had nitrious fitted. There was no little holes in chassis or engine plate and nothing in the hood scoop nor patching up That i could see. And trust me I looked everywhere. The batteries where a pain to take out off the car and between rounds i find that hard to believe that they would off done this. Mike Sullivan is a legend in his own right as a brilliant engineer. Alot off todays clutches are based around his innovation. Darrel Alderman is the best driver i have seen. He is the only man that i have seen keep his foot on the gas with the car way out off the groove. Those pearly white teeth off his and the interviews by the late Steve Evans at the finish line will be missed. Ohh by the way. the Daytona won the australian pro stock championship in its Maiden year off competition. Darrel if you are reading this. Thank you for giving me the drive to go drag racing you are a legend in my book. May Scott Geoffrion be praised for his brilliant driving techniques. Regards Simon Lazarevski Adelaide , Australia
Do you think that they would sell you the car with any indication that they were cheating? Before you got it every possible fingerprint would have been wiped clean. And you'd think that with all this talent they would be able to qualify at least once in the next 5 years, wouldn't you? Oh ya, the only 4 blocks in existance were sabatoged(not stolen, mind you)and there was no possibility that they could EVER be replaced. I just love sunshine pumpers. -Bob
Bob, probably not. However i can say that Scott was still running that car and doing very well with it when the car was sold. I know that Scott was not very keen on getting into the avenger as it had not proven itself yet in testing. Aldermans avenger was getting all the R&D program. Scott was leading the championship at this point in the Daytona. When the car was being sold Mike sullivan found a keen buyer then and there from the other side of the world. I remember when the current owner was packaging alot of the bits up and organising the shipping of the vehicle. Offcourse if some one wants to change something before final delivery it can happen.I am not that naive.Having said that i can not see any PATCHING up of any kind on that car. If they ran the GAS only they will ever know. But it seems to me that regardless of time frame, if more than one person was involved with any aspect of N2O filling or maintenace off the system, then sooner or later someone would talk to others about it. Human nature is that overtime ALL secrets slip. As till now, no one has said anything from that team or its fellow helpers along the way. Regards Simon

I recently stumbled across this forum...after reading this forum I would like to point out some things...#1)In a few posts people keep asking why the Wayne county boys didn't just "simply" go back with their original "winning" engine combo?...Well...simply put (if you know pro-stock).."last years" engine combo WILL NOT work in pro-stock...Pro-stock R&D is insane...if you tryed running "last years" engine combo in Pro-Stock you would get out run INSTANTLY!!...Now that thats outta the way...Phew..#2)Say if they were using nitrous up through the motor plate like the magazine article said could be done..they would've been caught VERY quickly...Their engines WERE tore down frequently for inspection...(guess if chevrolet isn't winning something must me wrong ) NHRA woulda found them cheating if they were... Fact is...people couldn't stand a chrysler product DOMINATING...plain and simple...I go through the same type of at the local dirt track..soon as you start out running people and your car isn't a shakeylay, you must be cheating in some way shape or form..= LAME.. Regards, W2_340 Welcome aboard!! But...Watch the language....Ted

I just have to say I have no respect for anyone who has to plead guilty to federal drug charges. Cheater or not that shows a serious lack of character in my book and don't care if he ever makes it back to the show. He had it all going his way and threw it away over dope.
I agree 100%.
Glad to see that there are so many perfect people. People that have never made a mistake. People make mistakes and people's lives do change for better or worse. He paid his dues and changed his life. Not all that make a mistake should be condemned for life. Remember that there was only one perfect person - and they crusified Him. Do you still want to be perfect.

good point Don for people who say they have no respect for Darrell... well... i have theupmost respect for him. he conquered his demon, bettered himself, paid his dues and moved on with his life. that takes courage. not to many people can kick that habbit. they end up being junkies/ broke/ and/or homeless. with that said.. that was prostock in the 80's. if there gonna find away to cheat and get away with it. they will. no matter what team it was.
