My uncle and I are looking to get some aluminum heads for a tube chassis challenger with a 440. We are doing this on a budget but would like to make sure we get our moneys worth too. We are currently looking at the edelbrock victor's and stage VI P5249579 Mopar performance heads. We really want to stick with the max wedge port. Any pros or cons for both or recommendations on other brands would be much appreciated! Thanx

The victors are nice. With a valve job and bowl work they went 355 cfm @ .650 lift. The bowl is really too large for the 2.200 valve though. I want to see what they'd do with a 2.250.
Indy EZ's look really nice too. Haven't see the Stage VI's, except for the std 440 port window and they were kinda crap heads.

I had those heads (stage VI P5249579 Mopar performance heads) on my 528..

They are not good, or maybe closer to crap ootb..

Don't waste your money going that way. While they will make good power when finished, you'll have far more $$$ in them than if you went Victor MW.. from experience. I had $5000.00 in those heads..

Car went 9.20's @ 145 in good air @ #2900 w/ a glide and a spragless 9".. But I could have had a real nice set of B1's for that $$$..

Chris..

jonnyj00,
By this time tomorrow, everyone will be all over this, trying to turn it into a war of brands, and almost none of them will look at, or care about, what your goals, budget, or proposed combination really are.

Tell us about the car: is it currently running? Stuts, or A-arms? 4 link or ladder bar? Have headers? If so, what size, and do they have room to move up for raised port heads? What does the car weigh, what tranny? and what are your performance goals?

Tell us about the engine: 440, so RB.. true 440 or stroked?
Solid cam or roller? If you intend to use what you already have, what style pistons? Do you already have rockers?

Budget?? what that word means is different for everyone! Can you afford $1000 to 1500 for reliable, proper valvetain gear? Can you afford port work? Can you afford to build another set of 1200$ custom headers?

Now let the deliberations begin...I could give you examples of about 5 different engines, and the dollars spent vs. performance, but then one of our chevy drivers would come on here and call me an idiot..so I'll wait until you provide more info...meanwhile we'll listen to reccomendations ranging from "budget home ported 906's are all you need" to "why waste money on anything short of fully flowed Predators"...

bottom of the line Indy Ez's. port yourself to max wedge(easy to do). they will flow around 350 for about $2k

standard rockers too so you could reuse what you have

Mopar Performance sells the Victor head with their own part number on it now. If you wanted an MP part(instead of the problematic Stage VI)

Indy EZ or SR w/max wedge port. And the Eddy Victor.

Those are your best bets for bang for buck, imho.

MP sells the RPM head with their part number and straight plugs instead of angle , when did they start offering the Victor ?

All depends how much money you actually have in the budget and how much power you want to make. CNC ported Edelbrock RPM heads are a good choice as are CNC ported Indy EZ heads. I wouldn't even put the Stage VI heads on the list. I wouldn't recommend Victor heads for you either. Those heads are a good choice for people who know what to do with them, not really a beginner head.

If you're kind of new to the Mopar stuff I'd strongly suggest calling Dwayne at Porter Racing Heads and have him take care of you. He can pick the right heads, port them and match them up with a cam and intake. Just follow his advice, pay his bill and then go fast.

I like those new Eddy Xtreme heads. May be you could wait for those to come out and have'em max wedge ported.

Jeff at MODERN CYLINDER HEAD is the guy for your heads. he's also running a winter special to save you some money. the other guy isn't.
he knows how to get the optimum out of your heads, he also has a CNC machine which the other guy doesn't.

Indy EZ-1 max wedge port - standard header location - standard valve train nothing exotic flow around 330 or so out of the box fully ported 360 or so - how fast you want to go?
