Well the last few months have been a trip, got promoted to Technical Sergeant(E-6), got my college degree and working on my next one, coached my kids football team to the playoffs, and even ran and finished a marathon as well as a few half marathons and 5Ks, has been a great year.

We also got started on the '66 I ordered the SFI 25.4 drawing, a bender, notcher, and got to work. Have really been making progress lately, hope to roll it out of the shop in a few weeks. We will be putting the engine from my '65 in it, should run pretty good. I have learned a lot and really enjoy doing this kind of work. I'm going tube by tube following the SFI specs and I'm really happy so far. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. My dad and I have been putting in some long hrs and it has been a blast. I've been dreaming of building this car for a long time and it's finally coming true and doing it the way I want to.

enjoy...

You might want to consider rasing the seat. Looks like your driver might not be able to see over the fire wall

Congrats on the promotion and the degree.

It's looking great. I hope you keep us update on it's progress

Set your steering rack in there to see if your pivot
points are the same as the inner pivots of the lower
arm.... looks good.... isnt that stuff fun

will mount the rack this evening, from initial measurements, the rack pivots were a touch narrower than the control arms, which from what I read is ideal. I'll let you know what I find out tonight. I'm building the front per S&Ws drawings and using all there stuff, just moved the rack a bit further forward to get it 2" forward of steering arms.

ANY THOUGHTS ON MOVING THE MOTOR BACK?

Motor is back quite a bit already but nothing is set in stone for that, just got it in there to get crank centerline height same as pinion, valve covers are a few inches under the cowl, gonna combine part of cowl with the hood. I think #1 plug is 4" rearward of spindle centerline, still have a bit more room to go back to keep 6C bar(tranny crossmember) within the 16" of 6a and 6b that the SFI drawing allows. I'll take a look at that tonight. I mocked up the frt fenders and I have A LOT of room up front, can't wait...
Thanks,
Curtis

Not a bad idea. That would eliminate the need for limiter struts.

Curtis - Congratulations on the promotion. Now for the next step. Apply for OTS now that you have finished your degree. Look at the money difference at retirement. I was a SMSgt. (E-8) on flying status when I went to OTS. Made more money as a 2Lt. Pay raises are huge from 2nd Lt to 1st Lt and then to Capt. Consider what your retirement will be above all else.

How is the lower a-arm going to move up/down without snapping that front heim?

Chris..

I agree, I know the struts only have about a 3 inch stroke or less, but we mounted ours with the tabs up and down to allow movement.

I agree with moving the engine back, I would start out with the front of the engine even with the struts.

Looking good, there is a whole lot of bars to put in one, nothing like making the pile of bars smaller.

doesn't even come close to binding the heim at full travel. here is the blueprint I got from S&W for the front end.

I think the engine is further back than it looks.

it looks to me the front of the engine is behind the struts already. The front is behind the rear heim of the lower A arm, and struts are about 4 inches forward from that.

Although I have seen different pics of it.
