Looking for a vendor or member that sells the correct wire that connects to the idle solenoid on a 70 440 6 pack motor. Thanks

Isn't it part of the engine wiring harness?

I'm sure it is but I seem to remember seeing one that had a disconnect at each end ie it wasn't one piece from the alternator. Not sure though. If it is one piece I guess I'll have to fake it and splice one in.

He's asking about a 6-pak engine, that diagram is for a 12-pak engine.

Parts I seek: driver doorpanel, 65 Sport Fury, prefer black, needs to be 7-8 on 10 scale, might buy set 16" x 6" Dodge truck wheel(s), from early 70s?, takes 9" dogdish - need for a research job so cheaper is better. 69-73 C-body caliper brackets and/or splashields Send a PM.

Here is a 70 Hemi engine harness. It shows how the solenoid wire is connected to the alternator field wire, brown & blue wires. These would be blue & blue on a 440-6.

Thanks to everyone for the pics and info. I guess what made me think there was a serparate or "jumper" wire was that on my car's wiring harness installed by the guy I bought the car from, there is a open blue wire that comes out of the harness near the coil on the pass side of the intake. It has a round, rubber covered female plug on it and it is hot with the ignition on. I suppose I could use it but I think I will splice/build a correct looking one as per the pic.

Well, upon further inspection and testing it appears that I have a 69 1/2 engine harness on my vert. The open, round female connector laying on the pass side of the intake (18ga dkblue) is in fact the dbl wire coming off the double wire field terminal of the alternator. So I guess I'll go with that. Is there someone that sells the wire that connects that part to the solenoid? Thanks.

You could try Bill Evans for small wiring needs, he's helped me on some stuff. 814-864-2622

Thanks Scott, I forgot about him. I'll give him a call. Hows the "snow level" over there?

If you have a blue wire from the alternator,it is not a 69 1/2 harness.69 is two wire alternator, black battery, green field. Also 69 1/2 solenoid wire (blue) is seperate wire from piggy back terminal on ballast resistor to the solenoid.I'd be curious as to why your blue wire has a round terminal. As for the two blue for the 70 alternator wiring, one goes to the ballast resistor, the other to tne regulator.Other than the coil, most all wires are push on spade connectors including the solenoid.

This isn't a very good picture, but it's free.

It looks like there is a separate wire for the idle solenoid. Insulated male bullet connector on the alternator end and a 90 deg. insulated female spade connector on the solenoid end.

That looks like the ends and positioning I have. The other two wire pics shown don't match the bullet end. I don't know if my harness has someones interpetation of what it should be or if it is 'correct'. I might just buy the proper ends for my set up and build a wire. Thanks for the pics.

This isn't that difficult. The 69 1/2 cars used the standard harness with the coil wire taped into the harness. The new coil wire is connected like so into the ballast resistor. (photo from a lift off hood playground member)
