I have a 73 Dart Sport that I drag race
and would like to disable the steering
wheel locking feature when the key is off.
Anyone done this? The key is in the column.

Pull the steering wheel and you will see the lock plate and the little latch that falls into the plate. Pull the snap ring that holds the plate and remove the latch.

There may be a little collar in the center of that lock plate that you slide out of the way to knock a roll pin out that holds plate onto shaft. IIRC, you have to loosen turn sig screws, tip it out of the way, and upper part of column to get at the plate, along with the snap ring. There's a little tinkering involved.
