Md	Is it just me or does it seem in the Nss racing or any drag racing that the 62 to 65 Mopars are much more popular then the GM and Ford products of that era ? I mean it seems I am always seeing alot of the older Mopars at NSS races. I always see Max Wedge and Hemi cars much more then 409's and 427 Thunderbolt and Galaxy Fords. Or is it because I am just a Mopar guy and notice them first ? Ron

We can go to any track an people of all ages always have a story to tell about themselves or someone else that has or had a car of these years. fullmetaljacket master F Joined: Feb 2003 Posts: 6,849	Think about it. A good portion of the 409 Biscayne's, Impalas have been eaten up by the low ride crowd, especially out in the West. The Fairlane's and Thunderbolts are hard to find in decent shape and are probably still not as competitive. Though the 922 guys might argue that point with some muscle. I personally would love to see the NSS races have more GM and Ford/Mercury products competing.

Ron you also gotta remember, there was plymouth and dodge making up for 1/2 the vehicles being raced back then.from 62-65 mopar was a dominationg force in super stock racing. racers now realize that mopars also have better resale value compared to the GM and fords even though ford is close behind.

The 422 Motorsports guys are mainly Ford racers with a few Chevys rolled in and there are a few Mopars. Its really crazy how much more people talk to me and look at my car with my 63 then they did when I had the Dart. I remember when I went to the track in May that I counted 7 people who came over and looked at my 63 with nice comments and stories within an hr. And I thought it was my good looks. dvw master Joined: Mar 2006 Posts: 9,834 MI, usa	I've raced N/SS in the past and will again. I think the biggest reason for more Mopars is period engine availibility. Ever tried to find a 409 or 427 FE block? Though 440s are becoming scarcer there's still a lot out there. Pontiacs aren't that tough to find as well. You can always use a 390 Ford, not much power though. Yes there are aftermarket blocks. A low 11 mid 10 440 can be assembled for less than the rest. That coupled with the fact that Mopars are just plain cool. My dad was a stylist at Chrysler. He worked in B-Body design studio in the early 60s. The designs of the 63 and 64 Plymouths were done by his group. He also designed the triagular shaped Dodge emblem. Doug

Whereas most organizations will make concessions to anyone running a single 4 barrel 440 as long as it doesn't have a dominator on it and the car looks period correct. 422 runs a lot of Ford products because they're Ford guys and know how to build them and more importantly, know where to find cars and parts to build them.

I love NSS racing and wish that CC events should open their shows to an all makes for this class. It has amazed me over the years how the quality and quantity of the cars has improved. It's a lot more fun than bracket racing. You should bring your 63 out, I know as nice as your car is, it will get a lot of attention.
