I ground mine...Is it a standard 2.375 journal rods? It will clear the pickup if its 3/8 NPT.
Grind enough to clear by atleast .050 or so.

I know a few guys that cut & weld the pick up to clear.

That might work on some but.......
It wont matter, it's not the pickup that hits..Its the rod bolt hitting the oil galley boss where the pickup screws in the block...
Atleast thats what hit in mine..Now with 2.2 cranks, they dont come close.
It was probably 2003 when I assembled that particular engine..so its hard to recall some details.

Heat the tube with a torch and take a pair of channel locks to narrow the area thats hitting. Tube isn't very thick to do much grinding on.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

I stuffed a tapered punch in the pickup tube so the threads wouldn't distort and then pinched the tube in a press with a socket on the spot of the tube where the bolt was hitting. Sideways like you know, so it put a curved indent on the tube.
This was on a 1/2" pickup tube with a 4.375" stroke 2.2 rod journal setup. Was a lot faster than waiting for the boss to cut and weld the tube to make it clear

You don't wanna grind on the rod bolts.
