Would using 15w40 Chevron Delo with STP additive contain enough zinc to safely operate with a flat tappet Comp cam? I am currently running Valvoline VR1 20w50, which has lots of zinc, but want to run a thinner oil to pick up some power and fuel mileage.

I run 15/40 Rotella and plan on going down to the Rotella 5/30 for the same reasons.

Justin,

Brad Penn 30w may work for you. I use it with a very aggressive FT cam. IIRC, Isky sells ZDDP as an additive if you want to go that route.

Have the place you get the ZR1 now order you in some in 10w-30 or whatever. I know they make other weights, just most places stock the heavy stuff.

I want my fair share

I had my local Napa order me 10w-30 VR1 for my cars.

The last time I looked up the datasheet for Delo online, it had plenty of Zinc and Phosphorus by itself.

It's what I run in my 318.

If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

I used to run the Rotella 15/40 Rotella but it was too thick causing the lifters to tick after a WOT run. I now run the Synthetic Blend 10/30 Rotella with a bottle of ZDDP with no issues.

Justin I have additive for flat tappet cams I sell to shops that do older cars and the guys at Engle Cams would send customers over to me too.

I can take care you.

Sounds good, Steve. I am going to start using the Delo 400 15w40 oil that my dad gets plenty of and I could mix the additive with it for a little spike of help.

I think it has 1200 ppm, but I am not sure if it had lowered or not.

I would like to use that as a base oil in my 318 and 383, as both have after market flat tappet cams.
