Took my Road Runner with a 383 over to an old time mechanic today to get his opinion on an engine problem. Runs great with no smoke from the tail pipes, but pushes a steady stream of smoke (not puffing) out of the breather hose. When I block the breather hose, the idle picks up quite a bit. Old time mechanic told me the intake manifold gasket is leaking under the valley pan and into the crankcase. Any thoughts before I pull it a part as my winter project?

From one old time mechanic to another, I would have to agree.

I would try a new pcv valve first. Why would a leaking intake gasket be forcing air "out" of crankcase?

Try the pCv first but as a winter project for a intake manifold gasket replacement it could be a short winter because it can be done in a couple of hours including a beer break. B/RB engine intake R&R's are a piece of cake. No coolant to worry about or anything.
