Trying to idenify year of this #450 wheel. Very light stamping M? 8 21 But on the back side it has small white paint mark ? can this help idenify year ? The wheel was in trunk of a 72 challenger I had.

The stamping should be:

M1
0

for 1971

and
M1
9

For a 1970

M = Motorwheel company
1 = Plant #
digit under the M indicates year it was made

Your "M" stamping looks like a double hit or a mis-stamp? The date is also stamped inside the rim area covered by the tire, look there to confirm. It's also possible that it has no year date stamp, some VERY early 1970 production wheels came that way. If you don't need it I know a guy who needs an early on like that for his super early build date car, PM me and I'll give you his contact info.

M= plant
8=month
21=date
look closer around the the bottom of the M for the year
if its a 0 its for a 70 1 its a 71
its a shame those are not worth much I do have a farm trailer I need a good wheel for it.would you be interested in trading it for a dog dish hub cap??

Looks like you'll need to get the tire removed to learn any more about that one.

Thanks for the info. When I get a chance I'll dismount the tire to verify date.

Scott would the dates stamped on 390 rallyes be different than 15x7 steel 450s
9=70 or
0=70 ??

I just went out and took another look and saw on the back side on the center hub area date was M59 also had 96 and a C I'm thinking that must be when the center part of wheel was made. How about date code for tire ? The Goodyear has a UA91G31 is this date info ? G could be 6

Day2,

Yes, that would be the same on your 390 wheel.

Original poster, it appears that you do have an early 1970 Wheel based on the info you last posted.

M = Motorwheel
5 = Plant #5
9 = 1969

and then the month and day stamped on either side of the valve stem as decoded by another poster above, August 21st.

Also, that tire looks like a good one, if the tread is nice and it's not weather checked that's a keeper as well. PS, don't clean the tire! Leave all the grease pencil markings etc. alone.

That's an early tire; the later ones had the size in white rubber....

tire
U - 1969
A - August
9 - ??
1 - Akron, OH Goodyear tire plant

wheel center
M5/9 - Motor Wheel plant #5 (Canada) 1969

wheel hoop
2944450
M1/9 - Motor Wheel plant #1 (USA) 1969
8 -o- 21 * - Thursday, August 21st

You can see the top of the "9" in the first pic. I find it odd that the center is from CANADA and the hoop from USA.
Anyone have a "450" wheel they can look at to see if this is the norm?

Dan
I looked at a couple of mine and yes, that is how they are on 2 that I just looked at.

Here are some pictures of my 10/14/69

I also looked at one of my 1-15-70's and it had M1 on the hoop and M9 on the center also.

Thanks for all the info. Was out this morning in the garage and took a look at the 4 15" rallye wheels that came with the same car as the 450 wheel and there all date coded M19 8 12 So I'am thinking maybe these wheels all came on the same car and the 450 wheel was the spare ? The tire being a F60-15 on the 450 wheel would most likely indicate these were off a B-body ?

Yes, they had to have come from a '70 B-body since 15" wheel equipped E-bodies could only have a space saver spare.
