I was going to swap intakes on my 340... have a torker 340 on right now and was going to try out a weiand... It was like the weiand wasnt wide enough. I bolted it on and it had like an 1/8 inch gap on one side between it and the intake gasket. I pulled this intake from a stock 318 so Im assuming nothing has been done to it. Does this mean my block or something has been decked?

if the weiand intake has a 1/8 gap on the motor you have tried it on and it fit the 318 you took it off of,then the 318 probly had the heads cut for more compression at some time and instead of correcting the intake side of the head, they instead cut the intake manifold.

Classic example of the why not to mill intakes. correction should be done on the head surfaces and then everything should be interchangable from combo to combo - mix or match.

I cant figure out why they would have cut these heads. The valves are tiny as are the ports. It was just rebuilt so it would have made more sense to get higher compression pistons instead. Ah well...

Decent 318 pistons aren't cheap or easy to find.
